There are as many kinds of careers as there are people. They vary greatly in the type of work involved and in the waysthey influence a person’s life. The kind of career you have can affect your life in many ways. For example, it candetermine where you live and the friends you make. It can reflect how much education you have and can determine theamount of money you earn. Your career can also affect the way you feel about yourself and the way other people acttoward you. By making wise decisions concerning your career, you can help yourself build the life you want. To makewise career decisions and plans, you need as much information as possible. The more you know about yourself andcareer opportunities, the better able you will be to choose a satisfying career. Learning about one. People differ in whatthey want from a career. Many people desire a high income. Some hope for fame. Others want adventure. Still otherswant to serve people and make the world a better place. Before you begin to explore career fields, you should determineyour values; your interests; and your aptitudes (abilities). Most people are happiest in jobs that fit their values, interests,and aptitudes. Each person has many values, which vary in strength. For example, money is the strongest value for somepeople – that is, wealth is more important to them than anything else. As a result, they focus their thoughts, behaviour,and emotions on the goal of earning a high income. Other values include devotion to religion, taking risks, spending timewith family, and helping others. People should understand their values prior to making a career decision. You candevelop an understanding of your values by asking yourself what is most important to you and by examining yourbeliefs. For example, is it important to you to work as a member of a team? Mass Media
Mass media or mass communications are the press, radio and television.
Every day we read newspapers magazines, listen to the radio and watch TV. Nowadays there are so many newspapers and magazines, radio stations and TV channels that we have to be very selective and give preference to some of them.
What newspapers and magazines do I prefer to read? I like to read the following newspapers: “Komsomolskaia Pravda” (“Komsomol Truth”), “Nezavisimost” (“Independence”), “Argumenty I Fakty” (“Arguments and Facts”), “Vechirni Kyiv” (“Evening Kyiv”) and sometimes “Sovershenno Secretno” (“Top Secret”) and the magazines “Vitchyzna” (“Motherland”), “Vsesvit” (“All the World”). Several periodicals are available in English. They are “News from Ukraine”, “Ukraine” magazine. As far as newspapers are concerned they may be daily, or weekly. Magazines may be weekly, monthly and quarterly.
The newspapers and magazines I read are the most readable and have a large readership or circulation. For example, “Argumenty I Fakty” has a circulation of more than 23,000,000. It is the largest in the world. The newspapers contain and give coverage of local, home and foreign affairs. Their publications deal with very burning problems of our history, latest events and forecasts for future. They also touch upon cultural, sport news. I like the way they present different points of view, approaches to the problems. My parents and I subscribe to some periodicals, so we are subscribers. We buy some of newspapers and magazines in a kiosk.
I often listen to the radio, especially in the morning before I leave for the school. I prefer to listen to “Promin” (“Ray”) program. It broadcasts much news and music. I like to listen to weekend programm, some of them are very amusing and entertaining.
As to TV, we have many channels. I prefer to watch youth program, see interesting films. They might be feature, adventure, scientific, horror, cartoon and other films. I enjoy seeing Walt Disney’s cartoons. Sport programs are enjoyable and interesting too. My favourite channels are “Inter” and “MTV” because I like music very much.

This is Regent Street, which was built in the 1800s. The street
itself separated Mayfair, which was an upper-class area, with Soho,
over there, which was a working-class area.

overseas visitors just absolutely love?
Benedict: Well, in London, we have over 2,000 years of fascinating
history. It's a centre for art, for culture, for music, for fashion,

It's still me!
This castle dates back almost eleven hundred years to William
the Conqueror. Very nice!
Edward the Fourth was imprisoned here in the 1400s and Royalist
soldiers attacked Warwick during the English Civil War.
Some royal visitors have been more welcome. Elizabeth the First
and Queen Victoria both spent time here, so I’m in good company.
What a beautiful view... Who turned the lights out?
Adam is the Attractions and Shows team leader.
Richard: Adam, what have you come dressed as?
Adam: Oh, well, today, Richard, I've come dressed in my finest
1620s gear, about what a gentleman would wear
about 400 years ago.
Richard: And I love my outfit. What have you got me dressed as?
Adam: Well, I've got you dressed as a man-at-arms of the
15th century, so you're not as wealthy as me, but you still look
quite mean and gnarly.
Richard: Cool, good man. Now, tell me about Warwick Castle.
Adam: Well, here at Warwick Castle, we have over one thousand
years of incredible jaw-dropping history. The oldest part of
the castle goes back well over a thousand years, but what you
see here today, Rich, mostly dates back to about 600 years ago
and it pretty much remains untouched from then onwards till today.
Richard: So, what would it have been like to live here
in medieval times?
Adam: Well, it would probably have been quite a smelly and
dark place. The moats that you see down here would have actually
not been filled with water, but with sewage draining from the castle.
Richard: Now, I was rather hoping someone would tell me how
to use this sword. Do you mind?
Adam: Sadly, I'll be honest with you, it's not really my thing.
But I know two gentlemen who will be able to help you out.
They're just round the corner.
Richard: Over there?
Adam: Yep. Just round there. Good luck!

What is Fly-tipping?
Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish or bulky items on land not licensed to receive it. Fly-tipping is dangerous , because it polluted the land and waterways. Besides, it costs the council taxpayer significant amounts of money to clear the rubbish away.
When people dump household, industrial and commercial waste illegally they commit a crime.
Fly-tipping is often associated with dumping waste from vehicles. The person who owns such a vehicle can also be brought to trial, even if only the vehicle, not the driver, is identifiable. The police also have the powers to seize vehicles which have been used for fly-tipping.
Local Councils in the UK usually provide waste disposal sites and recycling centres where people can safely and legally dispose of unwanted items.
What to do about fly-tipped waste
If you discover fly-tipped waste, do not:
- touch the waste – it may contain broken glass, toxic chemicals or other hazardous substances;
- disturb the site – there may be the evidence that could help identify the fly-tippers and lead to their prosecution.
Do:
- visually try to work out what the waste consists of and how much of it there is:
- make a note of the day, date and time you saw the tipping, its exact location and whether it is in or near water;
- report fly-tipping to your teachers at school or your parents, they will take necessary measures.

Human-made noise pollution in the Earth's oceans and seas is becoming a serious threat to sea wildlife. Scientists report that there is hardly an underwater place left where sea mammals can live in peace and quiet. Dozens of species of whales, dolphins, turtles and other creatures depend on sound in their communication, finding mates and hunting for food. Now, one way to see the sights is to hop on and hop off an open-top
London bus. Now, most buses go from A to B, but this one is special.
This is a Big Bus tour bus and is a great way to see the city.
The Houses of Parliament, one of the largest parliament buildings
in the world.
This is Regent Street, which was built in the 1800s. The street
itself separated Mayfair, which was an upper-class area, with Soho,
over there, which was a working-class area.
Benedict Protheroe is a tour guide.
Richard: So in your opinion then, what is it about London that
overseas visitors just absolutely love?
Benedict: Well, in London, we have over 2,000 years of fascinating
history. It's a centre for art, for culture, for music, for fashion,
there's restaurants, nightlife, museums, the river. Everything you
could possibly want to see or do, you've got it here in London.

I’ve come to Warwick Castle to find out. Let’s step back in time...
It's still me!
This castle dates back almost eleven hundred years to William
the Conqueror. Very nice!
Edward the Fourth was imprisoned here in the 1400s and Royalist
soldiers attacked Warwick during the English Civil War.
Some royal visitors have been more welcome. Elizabeth the First
and Queen Victoria both spent time here, so I’m in good company.
What a beautiful view... Who turned the lights out?
Adam is the Attractions and Shows team leader.
Richard: Adam, what have you come dressed as?
Adam: Oh, well, today, Richard, I've come dressed in my finest
1620s gear, about what a gentleman would wear
about 400 years ago.
Richard: And I love my outfit. What have you got me dressed as?
Adam: Well, I've got you dressed as a man-at-arms of the
15th century, so you're not as wealthy as me, but you still look
quite mean and gnarly.
Richard: Cool, good man. Now, tell me about Warwick Castle.
Adam: Well, here at Warwick Castle, we have over one thousand
years of incredible jaw-dropping history. The oldest part of
the castle goes back well over a thousand years, but what you
see here today, Rich, mostly dates back to about 600 years ago
and it pretty much remains untouched from then onwards till today.
Richard: So, what would it have been like to live here
in medieval times?
Adam: Well, it would probably have been quite a smelly and
dark place. The moats that you see down here would have actually
not been filled with water, but with sewage draining from the castle.
Richard: Now, I was rather hoping someone would tell me how
to use this sword. Do you mind?
Adam: Sadly, I'll be honest with you, it's not really my thing.
But I know two gentlemen who will be able to help you out.
They're just round the corner.
Richard: Over there?
Adam: Yep. Just round there. Good luck!
Richard: Great! Thank you. What a helpful chap!
Richard: Guys, guys, guys, guys! Hang on, guys, break it up,
break it up! I've just been told that you're the guys to see about
learning to use the sword. Can you show me a move?

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish or bulky items on land not licensed to receive it. Fly-tipping is dangerous , because it polluted the land and waterways. Besides, it costs the council taxpayer significant amounts of money to clear the rubbish away.
When people dump household, industrial and commercial waste illegally they commit a crime.
Fly-tipping is often associated with dumping waste from vehicles. The person who owns such a vehicle can also be brought to trial, even if only the vehicle, not the driver, is identifiable. The police also have the powers to seize vehicles which have been used for fly-tipping.
Local Councils in the UK usually provide waste disposal sites and recycling centres where people can safely and legally dispose of unwanted items.
What to do about fly-tipped waste
If you discover fly-tipped waste, do not:
- touch the waste – it may contain broken glass, toxic chemicals or other hazardous substances;
- disturb the site – there may be the evidence that could help identify the fly-tippers and lead to their prosecution.
Do:
- visually try to work out what the waste consists of and how much of it there is:
- make a note of the day, date and time you saw the tipping, its exact location and whether it is in or near water;
- report fly-tipping to your teachers at school or your parents, they will take necessary measures.

Human-made noise pollution in the Earth's oceans and seas is becoming a serious threat to sea wildlife. Scientists report that there is hardly an underwater place left where sea mammals can live in peace and quiet. Dozens of species of whales, dolphins, turtles and other creatures depend on sound in their communication, finding mates and hunting for food. So noisy environment is making it difficult to lead a normal life. This is according to a report from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), called «Ocean Noise: Turn it Down». The environmental group says noise from shipping, oil and gas surveys, offshore construction and water sports has reached dangerous levels for sea life The IFAW says the distance over which blue whales can communicate is down by 90 per cent. It also reports that in the past decade, many whales have become beached after being disorientated because of loud noise. The group also warns that noise pollution is only going to get worse. There are 90 survey ships active in the oceans today. In addition, the number of ships sailing the seas will double by 2025. Mark Simmonds, a lFAW spokesman, said « man-made noise is already causing a kind of acoustic fogy, and called for a «response to noise pollution in the underwater».
